The Microsoft AI-900 Fundamentals is a foundational certification available at Microsoft that helps demonstrate basic knowledge of common ML and AI workloads as well as their implementation on Azure. It is a relatively easy certification even for those with non-technical backgrounds or prior knowledge or experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

I passed the exam with a score of 914/1000 (passing score: 700) with less than 10 hours of study over a three week period. Microsoft provides a list of resources (learning paths) on the AI Fundamentals exam page . I would suggest to start there, first by printing out and reading the exam skills outline, and then going through all the 5 learning paths listed, that correspond to the sections of the exam. The learning paths are:

  • Get started with artificial intelligence on Azure
  • Create no-code predictive models with Azure Machine Learning
  • Explore computer vision in Microsoft Azure
  • Explore natural language processing
  • Explore conversational AI

As usual, there are excellent and affordable courses on Udemy which you can use to prepare for this certification. The one I used was Scott Duffy’s AI-900 Azure AI Fundamentals Exam Prep In One Day. I also went through four practice tests from the course AI-900 Azure AI Fundamentals 5 practice tests by GreyMatter.AI, which helped be better prepare to what to expect during the exam.

Other useful resources are this AI-900 playlist on Youtube, and also John Savill’s AI-900 Study Guide, which is a nice 46mn summary of the exam outline. I suggest to go through it a few days before the exam once you have gone through all the other materials and done the practice tests.
